Zayn Malik is postponing the US leg of his first tour Stairway to the Sky that was set to launch on October 23 in San Francisco.
This is a huge development for the former British pop band One Direction member. American fans have been waiting patiently for Zayn to be on stage for a very long time.
Zayn Malik postpones US tour
However, it was not an easy decision for the 31-year-old West Yorkshire native. The shocking death of his former bandmate Liam Payne on Wednesday is the reason for the delay.
Interestingly, Zayn announced his upcoming tour on September 18. The American leg was supposed to serve as some kind of launching pad before multiple stops in the United Kingdom.
The September announcement on Instagram read: “STAIRWAY TO THE SKY TOUR 2024
Appreciate your patience, love, and support. Can’t wait to enjoy great music together.
This time I really mean soon 😂 see you in 35 days….
Tickets on sale Saturday but VIP Key holders will get first access to tickets beginning tomorrow.”
Zayn Malik’s Stairway to the Sky tour dates still on in the UK
UK supporters will still be able to see their favorite artist in November. Zayn will be in Edinburgh, Scotland on November 20 and 21.
At the moment, the US portion of the tour is rescheduled for January 2025. However, no dates have been confirmed as yet.
On Saturday, Zayn told his American fans: “Given the heartbreaking loss experienced this week, I’ve made the decision to postpone the U.S. leg of the Stairway to the Sky Tour. The dates are being rescheduled for January and I’ll post them as soon as it’s all set in the next few days. Your tickets remain valid for the new dates. Love you all and thank you for understanding.”
Zayn reacts to Liam Payne’s death
Payne’s death at 31 in Argentina was a devastating blow for the “What I Am” artist. Via a touching statement posted via Instagram, he wrote: “Liam, I have found myself talking out loud to you, hoping you can hear me, I can’t help but think selfishly that there were so many more conversations for us to have in our lives. I never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life. When I was missing home as a 17 yr old kid you would always be there with a positive outlook and reassuring smile and let you know. that you were my friend and I was loved.”
He went on to say: “Even though you were younger than me you were always more sensible than me you were headstrong, opinionated, and gave no f–ks about telling people when they were wrong. Even though we butted heads because of this a few times, I always secretly respected you for it.”
The former members also released a joint statement about the passing.
Fans of Zayn say rescheduling some dates make sense and that they understand the need to process what happened. They look forward to seeing him in January.
